Opening a Smart Doc template
First, open an existing Smart Doc template.
Click the account icon on the bottom left hand corner of any screen
- Click Settings
In the Settings column, click Proposals
- Click Templates
Scroll through the list and select a template (or use the Search tool).
Click the template name to open the template editor.
Commonly Used Tools
There is a full Word editor available in the toolbar at the top of the template builder.
Here are five tools most commonly used when editing a Smart Doc template.
Click the icon to export the template as a PDF document.
Save all changes before leaving the page or exporting the file.
Click the icon to show or hide the Mail Merge panel.
Use the search bar to quickly locate a merge field.
Click the green icon to show or hide the Keyboard Shortcuts panel.

Editing sample
This example shows two steps you will likely need when editing a template: create a heading and insert a merge field.
Creating a heading
Locate a spot in the template for a new section or subsection.
Hit Return a couple of times to create white space on the page.
Enter the heading text.
Highlight the text.
Go to the toolbar and select a Heading style (e.g. H2.)

Adding a merge field
Select a location for the merge field and click that spot with the mouse.
Go to the search bar and enter a merge field name.
Click the merge field one time.

BrokerEngine places the merge field on the template page.

Go to the top of the page.
Click Save.
Continue editing.
